Moose is looking for a new home! Please reach out to us if you are interested in him and we can answer questions and/or get you in touch with his current owner. You can email us at: Frolicdogtraining@gmail.com

Here are the basics:

-Golden Retriever/Irish setter mix from a breeder in WA.

-70-75 pounds.

-Neutered male.

-1.5 yrs old.

-Beautiful coat (that sheds a lot!)

-Owner says that other puppies from his litter are doing service work, Moose isn’t suited for service work because of his occasional spookiness with new people.

-Can get spooked by seeing new people, will bark a few times/back away. Once he’s around the person for a few min he usually warms up.

-Never progressed aggression towards people beyond a few spook barks/a low growl.

-Can be rambunctious with kids, grew up with several small children who he loves but sometimes knocks over with his exuberance.

-Very dog-social, can be intense/overbearing in play.

-Very high energy.

-Highly affectionate & loves to work with you.

-Wildly food motivated.

-Great engagement with the right handler.

-Struggles with over-arousal (over-excitement.)

-Cooperative for nails, grooming.

-Crate trained, very comfortable being crated.

-Rides quietly in a crate in the car for short and long drives.

-LOVES to swim.

-Hikes off leash well with e-collar.

-No known allergies, tolerates variety of treats and chews well.

-Walks nicely on a loose-leash with a prong collar. Will pull hard with flat collar although I’m sure he could learn loose leash walking without a prong if someone wanted to teach it.

-Great on place or a tie-down.

-At home he is over-excited, counter-surfs, jumps on people a lot and has a hard time settling down on his own. He is described as “just doesn’t ever stop.”

-Moose is being re-homed because he requires more time, energy and training than his current owners are able to provide. His current home is a busy multi-child, multi-dog home and they bought Moose in hopes he could be a service dog for one of the children, and if not at least be an easy family pet. Because of Moose’s high energy and higher than expected training and enrichment needs, he isn’t suited for his current home.

-At my house (me being Lucia, his trainer) he is easy but I do hike him off leash very regularly when he’s here and I use heavy management in the house (tie-downs, crate, drag leash, etc.) He will need lots of regular exercise, and patient & consistent training to get to a point where he can be loose in the house un-supervised/un-managed.

Overall, Moose is a super sweet, goofy, high energy, rambunctious boy who loves his people, other dogs, training, food, and adventuring in nature. He needs a dedicated owner who wants to exercise him a lot, train him a lot, and who will be ok with management in the house and with new people. I have boarded Moose for many extended periods and I always really enjoy him.
